AB OUT: Moving through scenes of infancy, life, death, and rebi rth, Pixel's refreshing take on the journey of the mythical phoenix is a bold work for any medium-level ensemble. Its carefully crafted percussion textures combi ne with powerful brass and delicate woodwind parts to convey the joy of new life! FROM THE COMPOSER: This ternary piece reflects the life and death of a phoenix, the mythological creature born again from the ashes it creates when passing. The light introduction and presentation of themes set the stage for the creature’ s evolution. Using woodwinds to represent infancy, the brass enters as a statement of power and growth. With maturity comes trials and tribulations, and as the tonality struggles, the phoenix transitions into a lapse of existence. As the remains settle, motion continues and a jovial piccolo feature attempts to spark life back into the phoenix. Conceived with more vigor and resilience than before, the recapitulations are stated with firm support and solid di rection. New life transcends. DURATION: 6'21"
