Pageant is the classic composition from well-known composer Vincent Persichetti. Premiered in 1953, Pageant is a symphonic overture which features a slow, homophonic section followed by a lively ""Parade"" section. It has long been a staple in the repertoire of high school bands everywhere. This recording of this timeless piece is to remind experienced band directors of this wonderful work and introduce it to those unfamiliar.
Persichetti's third band work is a two-movement exposition in different styles. The opening statement in the horns underpins a slow chordal movement, in which phrases are passed among different groups of instruments. A snare drum announces the beginning of the second movement, a polytonal parade. Newly engraved and thoroughly edited for the first time.
