This is an intriguing minor blues with a bridge. After the exuberant ensemble introduction, the Brass section is featured in the first chorus. The eight-measure bridge launches the minor blues solo section. Beginning improvisers are often successful playing over minor changes, so this piece is ideal for getting your young "jazzers" off to a solid start. The chorus after the solo section features all the winds playing a soft unison line. This has a great musical effect, and it can also be a terrific section to teach style and phrasing.
