Adrian B. Sims

Composer Adrian B. Sims has been fascinated with airplanes since he was a young child. His passion for aviation has remained with him through adulthood and has glided its way into his compositional career. If he was not a musician, Sims insists that he would be a pilot. He uses this airborne enthusiasm to navigate his audience through his newest piece for wind band. From the majestic opening measure of this fanfare, the audience will feel as though they have been gloriously lifted into the air and are soaring above the clouds. The musicians encounter a bit of flight turbulence beginning at measure 44, but the harmonies quickly turn from challenging to optimistic within moments. The magnificent ending brings a thrill of excitement and hope from the passengers for a peaceful landing of the plane. Fanfare for Flight is an inspirational piece that portrays visions of flying and reminds musicians and listeners alike of the magic of flight.
