Strophic, yet interesting, it is sure to be a hit at any holiday performance.
God Rest You Merry Gentlemen is a traditional English Christmas Carol with the earliest version dating back to the 1650s. The title phrase means, "may God grant you peace and happiness."This version is meant to be extremely accessible to beginning Tenor choirs, with the same melody being performed three times if performed unison. The piano accompaniment, which has hints of the carol Mary Did You Know, builds in intensity to keep interest as the melody repeats. The piece is easy to count and chant for a beginning group. If performing in two parts, the round on the final verse will add some challenge to your young singers without overwhelming them.
