Reese's two contrasting settings for the emerging Tenor-Bass choir introduce foundational concepts to the beginning singer. Whether performed unison or two-part (TT), one song is in a major key and one in a minor, there are opportunities for musical growth through altered tones, and accessible polyphonic entrances. With both 3/4 and 4/4 meters,  this is a must-have set for your emerging Tenor-Bass ensemble.
The Night is Dark and Loud is based on the poem "The Sea is Full of Wandering Foam" by William Ernest Henley, which tells the tale of an old man’s regret. Wistfully thinking back to better times in life, he sadly comes to the realization that the brightest part of life is behind him, and every night is filled with restlessness.Courage tells the tale of a young man who longs to travel and see the world, cutting ties with everything  and everyone in his life without saying goodbye. Unfortunately, he does not have the courage to fulfill his dreams. In Reflections of Young and Old for Emerging Tenor/Bass Choir, both pieces are excellent for introducing new concepts to beginning students. With many repetitive sections, The Night is Dark and Loud will let your students experience a minor key, accessible two-part singing, some altered tones, and the 3/4 time signature.Courage, which can be performed unison, introduces altered tones, contains easy polyphonic harmonies (if performed in two parts), and includes an optional three part chord at the end of the piece.
