Rockin” to The Core is loosely based upon some familiar rock riffs from the 70’s and 80”s. The sercussion set thetone in a four-measure introduction before the first statement in unison giving all players a chance to play the melodic rock riff. Measure 21 offers a slight variation in the melodic line followed by a harmonic buildup in first and second endings before a reprise of the opening riff but with the upper voices scored against the lower voices in a question and answer format. Get your audience or student body clapping during your performance for added concert excitement! This recording was done by The Butler University Wind Ensemble, Dr. Robert Grechesky, Director. The band performs the finest in wind music from the Renaissance to the present in a concert series presented in magnificent Clowes Memorial Hall on the Butler Campus, as well as other venues throughout Indianapolis and central Indiana. The band has performed for many prestigious organizations and conferences, including the conventions of the American Bandmasters Association, the College Band Directors National Association, the International Percussive Arts Society, the Indiana Music Educators Association, the Music Educators National Association, and the International Mid-Europe Conference for Bands and Ensembles in Schladming, Austria. In 2005, the band was honored to be the first American band invited to represent the United States at the first International Spring Music Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Band and Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Robert Grechesky, played three concerts to wildly enthusiastic audiences, including performances at the Glazounv Concert Hall of the Rimsky Korsakov Conservatory and the Great Philharmonic Hall (after Shostakovich). The Symphonic Band & Wind Ensemble is open by audition to any student enrolled at Butler University and provides the campus and Indianapolis community with a rich, cultural and artistic resource.
