Dorian Fugue

$75.00

By Douglas D. Nott

DORIAN FUGUE is indeed a “fugue at the fifth” but in Dorian Mode in a contemporary style. Therefore, this work should be performed with J.S. Bach in mind. Each entering voice must be stronger than the counter melodies. The opening is performed in marcato style with natural accents. It has a brief flute and oboe solo episode. Later, there is another episode with an exquisite, legato clarinet duet followed by a piccolo solo to express a medieval sound. Dorian Fugue ends in marcato style. The finale is rather broad and with extreme power. On the Indiana ISSMA contest list, group III. Performed at the Midwest Clinic, December 2007.
