Hymn for the Sky and Heavens above for Brass Quintet
$55.00
Masanori Fukuda
This piece was originally composed for a brass quartet in 2019 before it was arranged for a brass quintet in 2020, a version whose performance won the third place at the 1st Japan Brass Band Ensemble National Championships in February 2020. The piece has been further revised for this publication.Overall, the piece utilizes a combination of contemporary musical harmony and tonality. It opens with a fanfare that features contemporary harmony, which is followed by the euphonium playing tonal phrases that give rise to a beautiful "hymn." After a trumpet cadenza and an intense section written in a contemporary style and played at a high tempo, the piece finally closes with a powerful coda following a recapitulation of the "hymn." This version is different from the version written for the quartet as it features the inclusion of various additional phrases.
