In April 1912, the Titanic, the world's largest luxury liner, set sail for New York and sank to the bottom of the sea without finishing its maiden voyage.
Murdoch was the first officer on board the Titanic and one of the crew members who bravely rescued the passengers until the last moment the ship sank.
During his voyage, it was his daily routine to write letters to his family, in which he wrote not only about his current situation but also about his concern for his family. Such a "last letter" from Murdoch may have talked about the state of the ship crowded with passengers, the beautiful view from the Atlantic Ocean, and the accident that foretells an accident.
The song depicts the landscape and his thoughts that would have been spelled out in the letter with an Irish melody. I would like you to listen to "read" the last letter from Murdoch.
This 2021 version is a revised version commissioned by Tamana Girls' High School brass band club. It was premiered at the 2021 All Japan Brass Band Competition.
When adding new parts, I was careful not to deviate too far from the image of the original song. While using the motifs of the original song here and there, we revised it to make it more technical and richer in sound. This is the 4th edition following the original edition, the special edition, and the small edition.
