Written around the year 1001, The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon is the oldest essay work in the world. Its content resonates with many people, as it has been published in textbooks as well.
In the essay, Sei Shonagon mused over fashion, sweets, love, and other subjects in a manner similar to how we use blogs and Twitter today, and the work has come to be regarded as a catalog through which we can understand Heian culture. I have written this piece with my unique approach by drawing inspiration from the section "The Sense of Spring."
The orchestration of this piece is a hybrid version that allows the piece to be performed by small to medium-sized bands. Please feel free to include optional parts based on your own situation and judgment. I look forward to enjoying many unique interpretations of this piece.
