This is a 2018 small orchestral arrangement of an original piece that I had initially composed in 2004.

This piece was commissioned by the HOSEI Wind Orchestra, which had requested me to write a technically simple piece. This prompted me to adopt the style of the great composer James Swearingen, whom I highly respect. Perhaps as a result of this, this piece is imbued with a sense of vibrant, unadulterated youth from the heart, a quality that is not usually found in my original compositions. This arrangement can be played by a group of fewer than 20 people, with up to two parts per instrument.

This piece has a simple A-B-A three-part structure. The opening motif (based on the cadence of H-Es-E inspired by Hosei) is passed from one instrument to another, inverted, expanded upon, and pursued. While the piece begins with the sound of chimes, bells can be heard throughout. Even if the long tones are not marked with dim., you can create the right atmosphere if you play them in a manner that is reminiscent of the fading sound of chimes. It would be perfect if the audience can enjoy a tapestry of images evoked by the sounds of bells that combine various motifs and chords.

Although the middle section of the CD performance uses a tempo that is much slower than the specified tempo, I enjoyed the interpretation, which opened my eyes to new possibilities. I hope that all of you will enjoy this piece as a drama of sounds and motifs.
