FUSHIKADEN - Small Band ver. (score)
$35.00
Hirokazu Fukushima
This piece was composed for the 40th-anniversary concert of Iga Symphonic Academy Wind Orchestra."Fushi Kaden" is a treatise written by Zeami on the theory of Noh theater arrived at by Kan'ami, who was born in Iga. The subtitle of this piece is "Hisureba Hana," a phrase taken from a line in "Fushi Kaden," which feels like a message directed to everyone involved in the arts. I believe that the treatise is worth reading even when we replace the word "Noh" by "music" or "wind orchestra music instruction."Although I was deeply struck by the treatise after reading it, I was unsure how the profundity of its insights could be applied to music composition. Eventually, I decided to do my best to capture the imagery of "wind," "flowers," and the "noh dance" alluded to in the title of the piece. These have been annotated beside the expression marks in the score. As far as performance is concerned, it is preferable to aim for a "refined" and "entertaining" performance instead of relying on raw power. The chords used in the piece are not built on 3rds such as in major chords but on 4ths, which manifest themselves through the interaction of different chords in different instruments. Please pay attention to this aspect of the piece as you practice it.
