Many of you may have vivid memories of this piece from the U.A. School Festival in Episode 86 of Season 4 of the TV anime “My Hero Academia,” when it was performed by Class 1-A. Yuki Hayashi, the composer of the piece, had said, “I wrote this piece to portray Jiro’s passion for music, her love for her parents, and her decision to become a hero. I hope that everyone who has goals can go even further than what they have set out to achieve.”
The concept behind the orchestration of this piece is to have the same melody passed from one instrument to the next. Which instrument does this melody I am playing come from, where is it headed to, and who am I playing it with? It is a good idea to not only practice the part you are playing but take a more expansive approach by looking at the entire score and thinking about the other parts as well. Doing so will allow you to create a stronger ensemble and more powerful music. This may be a little challenging, but I have no doubt that you will learn something valuable from the experience.
