This piece was conceived and written for solo saxophone and wind orchestra as a tribute to Satomi Miyakoshi, the band's concertmaster who is retiring this year.

I focused on two key lines when conceptualizing this piece. The first is a line from the Turkish writer Mehmet Murat İldan: "To sulk is to create a noise; to smile is to create a music." The second is the line "You'll find that life is still worthwhile if you just smile" from the lyrics of "Smile" written by Nat King Cole. Many singers covered this song after it was first featured in the 1936 film "Modern Times" starring, directed, and written by Charlie Chaplin, who had also composed its music. My idea was to write down the music that came to mind when I reflected on these two key lines.

The world is currently facing many challenges, and I hope everyone who listens to this piece can smile and find peace in their heart, even if only for a brief moment.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the JMSDF Band, Kure, for giving me this wonderful opportunity.
