This complete overture to the opera Merry Wives shares both Classical clarity and Romantic intensity, and highlights Nicolai’s melodic gifts and his fluent understanding of orchestration techniques. This arrangement was written to share the melodic and accompaniment material equally throughout the ensemble and is colorful and exciting for all of the players. It is an excellent piece with which to develop a professional level of ensemble playing.
