Andrea Gabrieli (1532/1533 – 1585) was an Italian composer and organist of the late Renaissance. The uncle of the somewhat more famous Giovanni Gabrieli, he was the first internationally renowned member of the Venetian School of composers, and was extremely influential in spreading the Venetian style in Italy as well as in Germany. Ecco Vinegia Bella is the setting of an anonymous 25-line poem for 2 choirs. The piece, of 69 measures, was composed on the occasion of the visit to Venice of the new King of France, Henry III, in july of 1574. This version for brass choir (double setting) has been arranged by Prof. Elliot Chasanov (University of Illinois).
