At the age of 24 Nikolai Golovanov (1891-1953) was already Assistant Conductor of the famed Moscow Synodal Choir, and in 1917, one month before the Russian Revolution, he published several dozen sacred choral works-the last sacred music to be published freely before the start of 75 years of Communist suppression of the church and religion. His "Our Father" has never been sung in its homeland, but as the last piece to be included in Musica Russica's jubilee anthology One Thousand Years of Russian Church Music: 988-1988, it has already attracted the attention of such fine choral ensembles as the Dale Warland Singers and the Kansas City Chorale.
