Pangaea was the supercontinent that existed during the late Palaeozoic and early Mesozoic eras and that grouped together most of the land that had emerged on the planet. It was formed by the movement of tectonic plates, which joined all the earlier continents together into a single unit some 300 million years ago; subsequently, about 200 million years ago, it began to fracture and break apart until it reached the present state of the continents, in a process which still continues.
The work is divided into three movements, which describe the most important aspects of this supercontinent, as well as its destruction and the formation of the new continents
