Expressive and powerful music for Lent and Easter is the theme of this collection by Brenda Portman. There was a special attempt to fill two somewhat “neglected” categories: quieter preludes for Easter and louder postludes for Lent. Two multi-movement works on “Christ is erstanden” and “Wondrous Love” provide individual pieces of varied character or larger concert suites. Of special versatility are three fugues on Lenten hymns that can be played with varied character to fill different service needs.
