Peters originally composed Expedition for Soundscapes, a collection of 18 marimba solos. Like many pieces from the book, Expedition offers the performer and audience a vibrant musical canvas to imagine themselves in. Expedition is full of discovery and wonder as one might find on a real expedition.
Expedition is a terrific balance of technical skill and musical accessibility. Throughout the piece, Peters utilizes a highly coordinated effect between the hands across a variety of techniques, including double and triple laterals and rapid single independent strokes. Weaving the player through various harmonic centers and time signatures, Expedition is both a great challenge and joy to play.
Expedition is playable on a 4.3-octave (low A) marimbas and works well as a short feature piece for concerts, auditions, or technical study.
Expedition ships as a printed, professionally bound score, and includes individual parts in PDF format for printing or tablet viewing.
