The USS New York is built partly from 7.5 tons of steel from the fallen towers of 9/11. Today the USS New York (LPD-21) is one of the most state of the art amphibious warships in the U. S. Navy Fleet.Construction started September 10, 2004 and was commissioned on November 7, 2009. It is manned by a crew of 360 sailors and three permanently assigned Marines.
Her motto is “Strength Forged Through Sacrifice – Never Forget.”
