I have always said "there is no point in making music if I have to explain it with words." Until now, if I was ever asked to write program notes, I wrote abstractly. But this time, a college superior asked for one, so I could only try and do a good job.
Liberation is a series of variations of two themes in a prologue and main allegro throughout the piece. The theme motif of the prologue is 4/4: M2 up, m2 up, d4 down; then m2 down, m3 down, d4 up. A slow, thinly-voiced middle section is followed by the allegro's return. The prologue theme and allegro theme continue to develop and transform. After a while, they advance into an epilogue. Here the prologue theme develops with a clearly stated key. The piece climaxes after a short coda.
